My Soap Box Time AGAIN
Submitted by Bro. Harry A. Bruno, PM, MPS, Grand
Marshal, Grand Lodge of Georgia
Brethren, it has come to my attention that at some Masonic
Funerals around the state we are not acting as Masons should act.
Please refresh yourselves with the following section of the Masonic
Code of Georgia:
**51-109. Burial Is Part of Lodge Labor-Charter not Present at
Grave. A Masonic burial is a part of the labor of the Lodge; therefore,
it is improper to call the Lodge from labor to refreshment when
leaving its hall to follow the remains of a deceased Brother to their
last resting place.
It is unnecessary to carry the Lodge charter to the grave. The Lodge
must be regularly closed after the burial, unless at the opening of
the Lodge of Sorrow, the Master announces that this Lodge of
Sorrow will remain open, but darkened, for the purpose of
conducting Masonic burial services until some specific date in that
calendar year, at which time the Lodge of Sorrow must
be regularly closed.
The minutes of the Lodge must reflect all services (work) performed
while a Lodge of Sorrow is open. **
Please notice that the Burial Service is "Part of Lodge Labor" and all
Masons should act accordingly. There is no smoking, laughing,
walking around, etc while the Lodge is at Labor within the Lodge
room, nor should there be while at the Burial Service.
Any time the family or non-Masons are within sight of the Masons at
the Burial Service, we ALL should act the same as if we were within
a Tyled Lodge.
Please conduct a quick practice if at all possible and pay attention to
the Worshipful Master's instructions how the Funeral Ceremony will
be done. There are different ceremonies and many Worshipful
Masters do it a little different, so pay attention to what is being said
at the Funeral you're attending. Speaking of "ATTENDING", if at all
possible, ATTEND the Masonic Funeral when you're called. As a
good Brother once said, "you may not attend THIS one, but you WILL
attend YOURS."
Remember our duty and remember out Obligation to our Brethren.

A new Worshipful Master in a small Georgia town
spent the first four days making personal visits to
each of the members, inviting them to come to his
first Lodge meeting. The following Thursday the
Lodge was all but empty.
Accordingly, the Worshipful Master placed a notice
in the local newspapers, stating that, because the
Lodge was dead, it was everyone's duty to give it a
decent Masonic burial. The funeral would be held
the following Monday afternoon, the notice said.
.
. Morbidly curious, a large crowd turned out for
the "funeral." In front of the Altar, they saw a closed
coffin, smothered in flowers. After the Chaplain
delivered the eulogy, he opened the coffin and
invited his Brethren to come forward and pay their
final respects to their dead Lodge Filled with
curiosity as to what would represent the corpse of a
"dead Lodge," all the Brethren eagerly lined up to
look in the coffin. Each "mourner" peeped into the
coffin then quickly turned away with a guilty,
sheepish look.
In! the coffin, tilted at the correct angle, was a large
mirror.
Remember the obligation we all took my brethren
attend and support your Lodge!!!!

Does YOUR Lodge want to help
out the local school children?
Reprinted from the Cochran Masonic Lodge #
217 Newsletter
Just how do you get involved in helping out at your
local school? Talk with the principal and ask what
you can do. Maybe it's just helping out moving
some supplies once a week. Maybe its building
some picnic tables or other items the children use
outdoors. How about some raised vegetable beds
for the science class. Normally the school supplies
the material, but needs the labor to get the items
built. How about reading to some of the lower
grades? There is a non-profit organization that will
sell you dictionaries, thesaurus, etc at cost and you
can pass them out to one of the grades each year.
Go to www.dictionaryproject.org.
Wear your Lodge shirts and they'll remember you
for years to come. You'll be surprised how little it
takes and how much reward you'll be getting.
Remember, these are our future leaders and also,
each child has a father and each school teacher
has a spouse and one or more may be what we're

Hendry Betts, Grand Lodge Web-master, has approved our Web-site
and we are officially linked to the Georgia Grand Lodge Web-site

suggestions for minor modifications were made by the Bro. Betts,
which we will try to comply with in the near future. He did say, however,
that we did not deviate from the required criteria, that our pages looked
good and that one could navigate through the site with ease.
